Works / > Beacon of Hope

Between August and December 2016 I was poet-in-residence at the George Padmore Institute. I worked in the archive two days a week and looked particularly at the New Cross Fire, which has become a key part of my work. The first outcome was the book, Beacon of Hope, in which I published ten poems entitled "Surge", using the disembodied voices of those who perished in the fire. Second, I read the poems at the British Library as part of the GPI's 50th anniversary celebrations, alongside writers such as Linton Kwesi Johnson, Tabish Khair, Imtiaz Dharker and Vladimir Lucien.
